Gålå
Gålå is situated on a mountain plateau 950m above sea level. It offers a magnificent view of the mountain ranges of Jotunheimen, Rondane and Ringebu. There are two hotels at Gålå. In addition to these there are two café’s offering light refreshments, and a local supermarket with a well stocked sports section. Gålå is also the home of the spectacular annual PEER GYNT outdoor theater.
Gålå is well known as a family friendly destination, offering a wide range of family friendly activities throughout the year. Numerous downhill slopes, an extended network of skiing tracks for cross country skiing are the most popular winter activities. In the summer season Gålå can offer a wide and diverse network of well-marked hiking tracks, moose safari, rock climbing, horseback riding and much, much more… Stable winter climate
Situated at a relatively high altitude, with Gålå lake as its lowest point at 777 meters above sea level, the climate ensures some of the best and most stable winter conditions to be found in Norway, with good snow quality throughout the winter season.
Cross country skiing
Gålå is widely known for its cross country skiing facilities. The network of local cross country tracks covers a total of 230km and is continuously maintained to ensure optimal skiing conditions. Combined with the networks of the nearby destinations of Skeikampen, Kvitfjell and Fefor, the cross country ski tracks cover approximately 630km in total! The cross country tracks are suitable for beginners, families and the experienced alike as the landscape is predominantly flat with only minor hills. Alternative routes around the lake are available for days when there are very strong winds. A well lit track is also available at night enabling the keen skier to continue skiing until 21.30pm every night!
Alpine skiing
The alpine facilities consist of a total of eight lifts (including 1 chair lift) and a total of 15 slopes graded from code red (easy) and up to code black (challenging).
Other popular winter activities
In addition to the traditional skiing facilities, Gålå can offer a range of other popular winter activities such as dog sledging, snow shoe hiking, ice fishing, and tobogganing!
Summer activities
When spring arrives with longer days and the sun that warms up the landscape, the snow retreats revealing a green and lush landscape with a great variety of wild flowers. Mountain hiking is the traditional way of experiencing all the elements of Gålå’s magnificent nature, but why not try canoeing, bicycling, horseback riding or rock climbing? -Or just sit back and enjoy nature and the sight of the “king of the forest”, the Norwegian moose, on one of our moose safari expeditions! You can also try net fishing, frisbee golf, mini golf, tennis or just a relaxing swim in one of the two local swimming pools.
